Paid Summer Internship and Vote That Jawn initiative — Deadline extended to March 22

This just in from Professor Lorene Cary:

The Netter Center’s Shah Engaged Summer Research internship offers a $3,000-$4,500 stipend, available to undergrads and grads. The deadline has been extended to March 22nd.

This grant goes to the student, not the project, so it’s available for any important project you might otherwise have wanted to work for as a volunteer. I’m hoping that someone in our circle might want to work with me this summer on #VoteThatJawn, the only project in Philadelphia to reach across high school, community college, and 4-year-college lines to engage 18-year-olds citywide. Still reading and interested? These would be your main work/research activities:

  • Develop a citywide umbrella group with representatives from all teen registration and voting groups;
  • Coordinate among these groups; gather information about them, and post about their activities on social media platforms; this is research in action;
  • Program with VTJ and the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society our region-wide poetry and music project, culminating in an Oct. 30 Kimmel Center performance, including the Harlem Quartet, based on Walt Whitman's poem “Election Day, November,1884” ;
  • Analyze the 2018 Jawn event at WHYY and develop programming and a roster of partners and participants for this September’s Jawn, ahead of National Voter Registration Day.

Remember, the deadline has been extended until 22 March.  I'll be available over Break to discuss our work in more detail with anyone wants to talk.
