Lorene Cary's Ladysitting in the Penn Gazette

An artistic rendering of writer Lorene Cary emerging from a background of yellow leaves. In the foreground of the portrait, three generations of Black women walk down a path, the child in the lead.

December's issue of the Penn Gazette features a wonderful article on Lorene Cary's Ladysitting, premiering at Philadelphia’s Arden Theatre Company from January 18th to March 3rd. Adapted from her memoir, the play deals with the emotional and physical challenges Cary faced in caring for her 100-year-old paternal grandmother, as well as Nana’s own struggle with mortality.
