On April 2, the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) announced its 2024 National Magazine Awards. Creative Writing faculty member Jay Kirk won the ASME award for feature writing for his piece, “What Can't Be Unseen,” a deeply reported story for the New York Times Magazine on three crime-scene investigators assigned to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in Newton, Connecticut.

The National Magazine Awards are sponsored by ASME in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
