Kelly Writers House is now collaborating with Millay Arts to support a member of our Creative Writing faculty for a two-week writing residency in August. The recipient of the first Millay Arts residency is Christy Davids.
The poetry manuscript Christy will be working on at Millay focuses on the effects of human development on the natural landscape and how that intersects with climate, culture, disaster, and memory. Her work explores California's built environments — for example, the Los Angeles freeway and water systems, and developments that push deeper and deeper into fire territory. The poems in this collection investigate our connection to place — not only how we inhabit and infringe on landscape, but how we cathect to it and the expectations we form regarding how we think it “should” behave.
Congratulations to Christy!
