Each year, the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) sponsors a magazine internship program for college juniors. This ten-week summer program has placed students in editorial offices of some of the country's leading magazines in New York and Washington since 1967. More than 250 former ASME interns now work as magazine journalists and include senior editors at Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith and Time Inc.
Each year, Penn nominates up to two students for this internship. Students can apply directly to ASME, but students who are nominated by their home institution are given preference. Students nominated by Penn also do not need to submit an application fee.
Deadlines are announced each fall and applications are available through Handshake. For complete information and application guidelines, visit ASME’s website as well as Penn’s Career Services.
