Sunita Prasad is a filmmaker and video artist in Brooklyn, NY. She has written and directed several narrative shorts, the first of which, Queen Mother (2004), starred a young Laverne Cox as Marsha P. Johnson back from the dead. Her feature length screenplay, Rad Raj Pops It, was a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab and her play, BALD, was performed as a staged reading at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange in early 2020. She has also written for documentaries, most recently Storming Caesars Palace directed by Hazel Gurland-Pooler, which will be released later this year. Sunita’s video art works have been exhibited internationally at venues including the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Centre Clark in Montreal, and the Brooklyn Museum. Art in America called her piece Presumptuous a ‘high point’ of a group show at Flux Factory, and Artcritical applauded her ability to ‘underscore the identities involved and create intimacy with the viewer’. Sunita is also an accomplished film editor, having cut films such as Aftershock, which won the Special Jury Award for Impact for Change at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, and Going to War which was nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award.
