Professor Herman Beavers has been elected second vice president of MLA (Modern Language Association) for 2025. Professor Beavers will become MLA president in January 2026.
His leadership of MLA, after the 2025 leadership of Professor Dana Williams (scholar of African American literature at Howard University), signals the tremendous importance of the field of African American literature. Professor Beavers continues to shape the new directions of this most vibrant field. The MLA presidency is a lifetime achievement. Congratulations Professor Beavers!
